3D Microtissues for Toxicity or Efficacy Screening
InSphero’s scaffold-free 3D microtissues are multicellular spheroids that are morphologically and functionally very similar to native tissue. Easily amenable to standard biochemical assays and immunostaining, these convenient 3D models in 96-well plates are increasingly used to improve biological relevance in pre-clinical screening.
Tight cell-cell contacts, a gene expression profile closer to in vivo, an intact endogenous extracellular matrix and physiological nutrient and oxygen gradients make 3D microtissues ideal models to improve in-vitro cell-based assays.
To make or to buy
Thanks to InSphero's straightforward GravityPLUS™ technology, you have a choice: you can either purchase high quality, well characterized microtissues ready-to-use in 96-well format and compatible with your standard assays – or you can start producing your own spheroids by implementing InSphero's patent pending automated hanging drop platform.
The Technology Behind InSphero's Scaffold-free Microtissues
The patent-pending GravityPLUS™ Platform essentially automates the classic hanging-drop method to generate 96-format arrays of 3D microtissues from cells in suspension. Cells in hanging drops of culture media descend under the pull of gravity to assemble as a miniature tissue, completely free of contact with any artificial support matrices or surfaces – perfect conditions for reliably forming microtissue spheroids. The microfluidic design and surface engineering of the GravityPLUS™ plate ensures consistent and rapid filling, stable drop formation and reliable media exchange.
