A microphysiological system built for 3D InSight™ Microtissues

GravityFLOW™ microfluidic platform

The GravityFLOW™ microfluidic platform builds on the European project "Body-on-a-Chip" in collaboration with ETH Zurich, and is fully tailored to incorporate InSphero 3D InSight Microtissues.  The platform enables culturing of microtissues under physiological flow conditions, with the flexibility to interconnect and culture different types of microtissues for a variety of pre-clinical testing applications (view references).


  • Improve tissue-specific in vitro functionality by integrating advanced pre-qualified 3D InSight™ Microtissues under dynamic flow conditions, and an up to 10-fold increase in cell-to-media volume ratio
  • Utilize an automation-compatible, plug-and-play 3D microfluidic platform engineered to an SBS standard plate format with simple microtissue loading/retrieval and straightforward media sampling/exchange
  • Minimize system and operational complexity using a tubeless, tilting-based GravityFLOW™ medium perfusion system, guaranteed for compatibility with conventional incubators
  • Eliminate compound absorption by using a PDMS-free, full polystyrene platform and our proven, long-term stable ULA coating
  • Ensure scale up and experimental flexibility in microphysiological experiments with the modular plate design allowing arrangement of multiple conditions in parallel
  • Add metabolic competence in pre-clinical testing with concurrent pro-drug activation (e.g. liver) and target tissue efficacy testing (e.g. tumor/pancreatic islet) in a gravity-driven dynamic perfusion system
